Hey there! I'm really stuck on this because i have got an art exam and I need to find out about a history of an artist that made the world look so decorative. I'm not sure whether it is Monet. Pls help me out.

I think I'm too late. Perhaps by the time you read this answer your art exam is already finished. Anyway, I believe it's Michaelangelo. He was a great painter and sculptor. He painted the ceiling of Rome's Sistine Chapel, sculpted the hot and luscious (*laughs*) David, sculpted The Pieta, etc.
Just google Michaelangelo and you'll get thousands of links. They will all tell you that he's contributed much in our world's history and arts.
Nature and human emotion makes this world a mixture of pure beauty and pure ugliness. It's too deep of a topic to discuss in one seating Rose.
To make a picture look real, choose your subject, the emotion you want to project, have a good camera though not necessarily pricey, just click and click. Practice makes perfect dear. And continue learning and researching about any subject. That will make it look perfect and real.

What is the best way to remove paint from decorative iron railing?
I have decorative iron railing on my front porch and flat roof that has a ridiculous amount of paint on it that has never been stripped. I have taken a grinder to the parts that I can get to, however, that is only about 30% with all of the swirls and s-curves being too tight to get the grinder in.
I would prefer to not use any sort of chemical stripper, but if that is the best method, then so be it. There are about 8-10 layers of paint. It has flaked and chipped all over the place, but has simply been painted over (and over and over) throughout the years.

You could go down to your hardware store and buy yourself a cheap sand blaster for about $20.00 and some sand and sand blast it off.You would have to shield the surrounding area so you don't take off the paint that you don't want off. Looking for directions/designs for acrylic painted decorative bricks used for door stops lady bug,turtle, etc.

You can get HOOF Paint from any horsey outlet. Only available in limited colour range at present. Get the liquid tin NOT a Spray version (very messy) and cloggs up very easily.

Home decorative paint color ideas?
So, I figure there are probabaly a lot more people out there with much more decorative skills than I have. My fiancee and I moved into our first house last year, and we plan to soon move our attention from the yard to the inside. The same color was painted pretty much throughout the house. I would like to get some opinions on two rooms...The family/living room, and dining room.
Key points: The color on the wall is a neutral light brown tanish color and the floors are an off white tile.
So for the family room, all we really have in there is a large dark wood entertainment center with high shelves and the TV etc, a matching wood table in the center of the room, a light chocolaty brown couch with a dark wood sofa table behind it. There are also two nice lamps with the same type of colors. The problem here is that we are getting into too much browns, and I'm not sure what will be a good way to spice it up. We would like some color, nothing too crazy since we spend a lot of time in there. There is also a large window in the room (no curtains or anything yet) and we plan to add a large nice fake tree. Has anyone had a similar dilemma? Or have any colors, suggestions to recommend?
For the dining room, it is a similar story. Same wall/floor color, with a dark wood table. We added a darker greenish colored curtain to the two windows, as well as matching placemats and napkins. We were thinking of possibly painting this room darker, maybe a darker brown color? Or dark maroonish color? Again, any suggestions?
I lack decorative skills, and tend to lean towards the clean, sharp look. But that doesn't leave much room for color, so I need the suggestions.

How about adding blue to the family room. Not a very loud blue, but a cool calming blue (that probably has a hint of gray in it). This color would look very good w/ the browns/tans that you already have. Try having a feature wall. Leave the other walls the existing color and pick a wall to paint blue or better yet, add horizontal or vertical stripes that consist of tan and blue.
Then you can accessorize. Try getting pillows that have dark brown, blue, and tan. Get other decor items in different shades of blue. Dark brown wall sconces are a good idea (use blue candles) and you can get a nice area rug as well with the different shades in it.
For the dining room, I wouldn't necessary paint the entire room with one very dark color. But if you'd like to have a dark color in there, do the same as I suggested with the family room and have a feature wall with the color. Also buy accessories in that color as well. But definitely include a light or medium color in the room to make it more inviting.

yesterday i visited oshkosh (wi) and watced the set being built for the latest johnny depp film ';public enemies'; and i was speaking to some of the crew working on the set/props about how they got involved, and they told me to apply at.....something something something.lol.
they said they worked for a wisconsin union, but i cant find any info online.i think they said something like'; google AU 740';but i cant find anything.
i am a professional decorative painter and am very interested in finding out more info. do you have any insight for me?

Has any one painted their basement floor in a decorative pattern.?

One of the prettiest concrete floors I've ever seen was in a quilt store - they had made it look like quilts were lying around here and there - they had just used stencils.
One of the old diners in our town redid their floors, scraped up years of linoleum, and they painted back what looked like alternating black and red tiles.
I have a friend who paints murals - she did a basement play room - parts of it were set up for the little girl and it was just like a mini-house and then a mall, and the other end was done up for a boy with a race track and hiking trails. She also did a million dollar home - they wanted to keep everything natural - but the basement was an issue as they had this beautiful all woodfloored home, etc. and then this gray concrete - she painted a large Persian rug and then what looked like wood flooring at the outer edges.
So, just start looking at various flooring plans and then you can probably paint whatever you decide.Has any one painted their basement floor in a decorative pattern.?
My husband built a garage for a customer who wanted to use the space more like a porch. She rolled on a solid color of floor enamel, then taped off a grid of squared with masking tape. I have a friend who paints murals - she did a basement play room - parts of it were set up for the little girl and it was just like a mini-house and then a mall, and the other end was done up for a boy with a race track and hiking trails. I don't think that dark-brownish color matches the carpet, so maybe if you make the wallpaper dark-brownish, the carpet should match it like yellow or light brown or something. The teacher's desk seems more comfy if it's in the corner of the room and the blackboard still in the middle of the class just like a modern one. Curtains are nice but it'll be dark so don't forget the lamps!

It is also not designed to handle the extreme weather conditions that an automobile paint finish has to endure. For example.. high speed winds, high speed rain, road salt, ect.. Automotive paint is also thinner than house paint. I would not recommend painting your car with house paint. How do I paint a decorative interior concrete floor?
Make sure you clean the concrete first. You can get an acid wash that etches the surface so that a primer/bonding agent will adhear properly. If you don't do this the paint will flake off. As far as the finish it just depends on what you want. Staining is a great alternitive to paint. Spraying gives a different look then rolling or brushing. Concrete paint needs to breathe so that any moisture that comes up through the concrete can escape. Take a look at some web sites, the pictures alone might give you some good ideas.

You will probably get a clean stencil as long as you hold the can far enough that you can do ';misting'; coats. However, your stencil will build up with paint and bleeding will start at the edges as they become less sharp.
I don't think you'll be able to clean the stencil off as easily or if at all with the spray paint. See if you can rent a sprayer.Can you use regular spray paint with decorative stencils?

Yes, you can. But you must clean them very good after so many spray paintings or when your done with them or they stary have a build up of paint on the edge of the stencils.
You will probably get a clean stencil as long as you hold the can far enough that you can do ';misting'; coats. However, your stencil will build up with paint and bleeding will start at the edges as they become less sharp.

What to charge for decorative painting?
I have done some decorative painting in my home and some of my friends, but have never charged them. I have now been asked to paint a commercial location and they will pay me. I am not sure what to charge. The space is approximately 350 square feet, but includes several small locations, i.e. over doors and windows, etc. The process will be a 2 or 3 color ';mottling'; and I anticipate at least 60 hours for the project. I am not a professional, but she likes my work. I do not want to over charge her, but at the same time, do not want to sell myself short. Any advise?What to charge for decorative painting?

yesterday i visited oshkosh (wi) and watced the set being built for the latest johnny depp film ';public enemies'; and i was speaking to some of the crew working on the set/props about how they got involved, and they told me to apply at.....something something something.lol.

Sometimes local paint and wallpaper stores will offer mini-classes in the basic techniques, and Barnes and Noble, Lowe's and other big-name hardware stores carry how-to books on the subject. I like the ones by Sunset and Better Homes and Gardens. It's best to practice on a small board of some sort 'till you get the hang of it. Stenciling is kinda out of ';vogue'; right now but I still like it. It can be used for a pretty and very inexpensive border, like in a bathroom.
Taping off alternating stripes on one wall in a room is fairly easy. You do the math and then, with the aid of painter's tape, you roll bands of clear, non-yellowing, acrylic varnish over your base coat. Remove the tape and you've got a tone-on-tone striped wall. Don't trust Lowes, Home depot, ect for anything. Go to Sherwin Williams, Kelly Moore, or Anchor. Its a simple process for most faux painting, unless you want to do a realistic marble or other technique thats gonna need knowlege of glazes, oil over latex, latex over oil ect.
Best thing to do is get a 4'x4' sheet of drywall and the paints/supplies and just practice and experiment. After you learn one technique, others wont be so intimidating.

How do you paint decorative painted floors over old Fir?
Lightly sand, prime and paint away. Just be sure to top with a good poly. You will need at least 2 coats, depending on the foot traffic. I have wallpaper liner under my wallpaper on the top 1/2 of my kitchen walls and am wondering if I can do a painting technique on top of my wall paper liner if I make sure the liner is sealed well. I've been asked to help a friend paint some designs on the concrete around her pool. What prep is needed for the concrete, and what kind of paint is used? Do we seal it after painting? ThanksDecorative painting around outdoor pool?
There is special concrete paint. It is weather resistant and comes in a variety of colors.
For 'high traffic' areas an epoxy ester or a 2 component catalyzed epoxy coating would be useful.
You could even do the design in chalk and use the epoxy to fix it in place. But that would be pretty experimental.worms

Now days, you can get faux finishing supplies at Lowes and other paint retailers. Acrylic craft paints work great for tole and other decorative needs-Jo Anns, Micheals and actually Walmart-which has the best pricing are good. They also carry blank stencil paper and Micheals carries a line of tools for woodwork plus stencil cutting hot burners. You know of course that one can also use razor/blade knives.
I always went to the local plastics wherehouse. There I could get clear plastic at different weights on the roll and paid by the foot. I liked it as I could trace my patterns easier through it from the sketches I had made, using sharpies.I could cut it the size I wanted too.
As for patterns-check out DOVER books. They have a great line of soft bound books on many many patterns and designs and run around 5-7.00. You can find then through major retailers-book stores like Barnes and Noble.

I need advice for decorative painting on an outdoor wood project.?
I have been asked to paint a swing set. An exterior satin finished latex has already been purchased, for the basecoat. I am planning to use my acrylics for the decorative painting. But I am not sure how to finish it. Can I just use a water sealing product (ex: Thompson's Waterseal), or should I use a clear coat? If a clearcoat is the way to go, are there any suggestions on which one to use and how long after I paint should I wait to apply it? I really want this to be durable and lasting. Use the acrylic sealant that you can buy at any paint store or arts and crafts store. Wait until it COMPLETLY drys (your creation) then apply the sealant. Let that dry and apply a second coat. And try this after the acrylic sealants are completely dried and coated. Put a polyurathan seal over all of it. It will smooth it out and have an EXTREME lasting quality. You'd have to give that swingset a lot of torture to remove a couple coats of the poly...Good luck!!!I need advice for decorative painting on an outdoor wood project.?
Get J.W. painters finishing wax. After you have decided the best varnish to put over the painting apply the finishing wax and I would apply a spray varnish and this wax every 6 months or so more often. (I apply to all wood products and I apply to all my wood seasonal out door decor before I put them outside each season) It repels the water and keeps the painting in nice shape. J.W. has a website but I don't know what it is. You can buy the wax at www.vikingwoodcrafts.com.

UPDATE: In the June 2007 Issue of PaintWorks magazine there is a very helpful and informative article by the CEO (Sandra Croy) of JW Etc. On varnishing and types of varnish and what to use to protect wood products. I thought it was very informative and would be very helpful for your project. For instance she tells you when to varnish and how to varnish and what to varnish with for different things. She even tells you when to use Matte Finish, Satin Finish and Gloss Finish! Which I never knew... just always used Satin. Good luck.
Unfortunately, there is nothing that you can paint on wood that will last a really long time. However, hopefully you used a very high quality exterior paint rated with a 25 year life. Your acrylics should have been high end, light fast artist grade, and not the less expensive varieties. After that, you can seal with a polymer spray meant expressly for acrylics. Home Depot used to carry it. I used it on a public art piece and it worked well. It comes in matte or gloss. Good luck!

Good ideas for decorative painting on cinder block walls?
OK, so we're painting some of the rooms at our church. They are the bumpy cinder block kind and stark white. Does anyone have any good ideas for a decorative style to paint them that would also be warm and inviting? I thought about doing a faux finish on the bricks and paint the seaming between them a darker color, going for a rustic, warm, almost Tuscan look. Does this sound good? Can I do decorative painting on previously finished/varnished antiques?
I have an old dresser, probably from the 30's, that I want to do some decorative painting on. I'm planning to use regular acrylic paints. Do I need to sand the spots I'll be painting and prime them in any way, or can I just paint directly over the old stain and varnish? What kind of sealer should I use on the whole piece when I'm done? I'd like to avoid stripping the whole piece, I like the color and the way it looks, I just want to add to it.Can I do decorative painting on previously finished/varnished antiques?
I never paint over varnished furniture. I always sand it down and prime it.
The parts that get painted (if you want the best look and the best quality finish) need to be sanded, primed, painted, then sealed.
If you want the parts that you paint to have the same kind of finish (like, gloss) you can buy different sheens of sealer. There is, satin finish, semi-gloss and high-gloss. If the unpainted finished wood is not shiny at all you can wax the painted part using paste finishing wax. Minwax brand is good.Can I do decorative painting on previously finished/varnished antiques?

Denatured alcohol(found out any hardware or paint store) removes latex finishes. Dab some on a cloth and rub a test spot in a discreet spot. if the finish comes off, it's latex, if not oil-based.

A word of warning; just make sure that the antique you are painting on isn't some old, valuable antique ~ once you alter the original finish, you'll lower the value significantly.

Decorative Painting?
I want to add some decorative painting to a stepping stool that I am making for my daughter. It is a round wooden stool that I have spray painted a tan color and then I decopaged her name on the top, but it still needs something else. Any suggestions?Decorative Painting?

I think they are called rub-ons. They are in the craft stores. You turn them over and rub a popsicle stick over them and they press onto your project. They have many different things. animals, dora, letters and numbers, shapes, things. theyre great.
